We are a group of volunteers providing technical consulting and donated infrastructure resources dedicated to supporting non-profits, mutual aid groups, and organizers in and around Minneapolis. To ensure the highest level of security and reliability, our infrastructure is powered purely by OpenBSD with full disk encryption. Our goal is to offer stable, secure platforms and technical guidance—so you can focus on your vital work without worrying about corporate surveillance, data harvesting, or expensive subscriptions.
We believe in data sovereignty: your community's data belongs to your community. If your project requires web hosting, application deployment (e.g., Nextcloud, encrypted communications), architectural advice, or general infrastructure support, please reach out to us by email. We offer custom-tailored solutions and work hard to keep your ongoing costs as close to zero as possible. Don't hesitate to reach out and ask how we can help!
Our Services & Costs
What is always free: As volunteers, we cover the operational costs of our OpenBSD infrastructure. This allows us to offer the following services entirely free of charge:
- Shared Web Hosting & Subdomains: Reliable hosting and a free URL (e.g., yourproject.libreaid.org).
- Application Deployment: Setting up and hosting lightweight, open-source applications to help you avoid vendor lock-in.
- Cloudflare Management: Setup and management of free Cloudflare tiers to protect domains pointed to our infrastructure, or to host static sites using Cloudflare Pages.
- Technical Consulting: Custom-tailored architectural advice, general technical support, and guidance on navigating the tech landscape without getting trapped in expensive monthly fees.
What may require a budget: While we aggressively prioritize free-tier and open-source solutions to keep your overhead low, some external services require out-of-pocket expenses. These typically include:
- Custom Domain Names: Registering a unique URL (e.g., yourproject.com) usually costs $10–$20 per year.
- Dedicated Email Hosting: Reliable or encrypted custom email accounts (using services like Purelymail or ProtonMail).
- High-Volume Storage & Premium SaaS: Storage that significantly exceeds our shared capacity, or paid tiers of third-party tools (like Mailchimp or Airtable) if your group outgrows their free limits.
Community Funded
libreaid.org is completely volunteer-run and relies on community support to keep our servers running. If you have the financial means, consider making a donation. Every contribution directly pays for the infrastructure, domain renewals, and resources that we provide for free to mutual aid organizers and non-profits.
Donate to Support UsVolunteer Service Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
While we implement hardened security and follow modern infrastructure best practices, all consulting, hosting, and technical support are provided by volunteers on a best-effort, strictly “as-is” and “as-available” basis with no warranties, uptime guarantees, or service-level agreements (SLAs) of any kind.
By requesting or utilizing Libre Aid resources, your organization acknowledges that you do so at your own discretion and agrees to release, hold harmless, and waive all claims or liability against our volunteer team and maintainers for any service interruptions, data loss, security incidents, or unforeseen technical issues. We strongly encourage all participating groups to maintain their own independent, offline backups of essential data.
